Scouting report · after week 7

The streak is over, the bench problem is new

3-4 with the fourth-most points and a 47-30 all-play record, better than the team in first. Won the Sam Bowl by 19.68 with 26.18 of quarterback sitting.

The story. Sam B beat Sam O 122.00 to 102.32, the biggest margin of the week, and snapped a three-game losing streak. He is 3-4 with 849.82 points, fourth in the league, and a 47-30 all-play record, which says he should have about 4.27 wins. He has three. Luck rates -1.27, 11th, and his four losses have come by 23.66 combined.

What's working. Tee Higgins scored 26.8 and has 102.10 in six starts. Christian McCaffrey went 22.0 and has 144.00, Chris Olave 124.60. Jonathan Taylor, on the roster for the first time this week, scored 19.0. Will Reichard kicked for 12.7. Lineup efficiency is 91.7 percent, second in the league.

The problem. This week it was the bench. Kyler Murray started at quarterback and scored 13.90 while Bo Nix, also new to the roster, scored 26.18 on the bench, 12.28 more. Rico Dowdle scored 14.6 and Kaelon Black 10.9 on the bench, the Panthers D/ST -3.0 in the lineup. He left 21.18 sitting, 69.7 on the bench total, the most in the league this week, which for the second-most efficient lineup setter in the league is a new kind of problem.

What to watch. Week 8 is Chris, 6-1 and alone in first, with a 45-32 all-play record to Sam B's 47-30. Sam B averages 4.05 more. The team the numbers like most plays the team the numbers like least, and the record says the opposite.
